Business & Leadership

An a rather amusing management challenge

So I am going post a rather interesting management challenge.  Lets say a startup hires a new manager to manage one of its teams.  It had recruited a whole bunch of engineers by making commitments such as equity sharing and paid vacations etc. but never delivered to it.  The employees worked their butts off thinking that they will get everything.  But then things go sour between the startup and its major clients.  While the business is still there employees are getting treated poorly by the clients as well.    Now these employees are disgrunteled and semi-disengaged.  They are neither leaving the company nor fully stepping up the plate.  They also happneed to be very critical and single point failures in their roles. What should the manager do?  Here are some of the options:

  • Option A: Report to executives about employees' behavior
  • Option B: See if he can come up to a compromise with employees
  • Option C: Make up a stroy and tell employees that everything is fine
  • Option D: Look for another job
